Meet Yinzhou, founder of Citizen Adventures!

Hello everyone, Yinzhou here! Dakota is special to me because this is where my grandmother used to live. When I came to visit her as a younger child, I think there were many features of this estate that I took for granted. The majestic trees, playgrounds and abundance of open and public seating allowed for a community to develop and mature over time. It is then no wonder why the relocation of the entire estate into a single high-rise block at Cassia Crescent was very difficult for the residents.

While some connections were regrettably lost through this relocation, I think it is important to recognize the possibility for existing connections to be reconfigured and new meaningful connections to be formed. Even as the sun sets on Dakota today, we can take comfort knowing that the story of this community is not completely over and that there is still the next day.

More about Citizen Adventures

Citizen Adventures, founded by Cai Yinzhou in 2014, designs experiences to help Singaporeans understand neighbourhoods as ecosystems formed through the interactions between people, memories, infrastructure, policy and discourse. The organization currently offers tours of Geylang and Dakota Crescent that unpack the social issues these neighbourhoods face. They are also active in the community, providing weekly haircuts for migrant workers while organizing adhoc welfare events for them.
