For a few hours as the tides recede, nature opens its gates to reveal its secrets underneath the waters. Join Richard on a mesmerising tour of Pulau Hantu’s stunning intertidal zone as he shares the rich biodiversity that calls this unlikely island home and his experiences as a citizen scientist surveying these habitats!

Hi everyone, I am Richard Kuah, a nature enthusiast-turned-licensed tour guide! Even though guiding is my full-time job, I love surveying our islands during my free time to catalogue our rich marine biodiversity.
To me, Home is…
A place we feel we all belong to. A place where we have created memories that can be shared and passed on.

To me, Pulau Hantu is home to a natural heritage like no other. Even though the island is located next to a landfill (Pulau Semakau) and an oil refinery (Pulau Bukom), it holds so much biodiversity!

Vaccination Requirements
Participants must be fully vaccinated.
Attire
Participants are encouraged to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and covered shoes for hiking/trekking.
What to bring
- Participants are required to bring your physical NRIC or passport for immigration.
- Participants are encouraged to bring an extra change of pants/shoes as they will encounter shin-deep water.
- Participants should bring along an umbrella/poncho, hand sanitiser, insect repellent, and a bottle of water.
- Participants are also encouraged to bring their own earphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack) as radio guides will be used for the tour.
- Asthmatic individuals are encouraged to bring their inhaler.
- Individuals with seasickness should carry their medicine along.
