Catch a glimpse of life as a nun at the Carmelite Monastery which will be opening its doors to My Community Festival 2022 exclusively!
What is it like to live as a nun in Singapore? Come and find out for yourself at the Carmelite Monastery where Sister Jacinta will be taking participants around the compound’s various facilities to shed light on how the nuns use these spaces throughout the day! Experience the warmth and light of the tight-knit community as you listen to the sisters narrate how they have found a home in Catholicism.
Established in 1938, the Carmelite Monastery is located atop a hill on Bukit Teresa Road. During the Second World War, the monastery was partially converted into anti-aircraft base and was eventually occupied by the Japanese. Today, traces of this tumultuous history can still be found within the monastery. However, the monastery today has reverted to its original function, serving as a spiritual sanctuary for devotees and a residence for the sisters.
