Introduce yourself

Hello! I am Nomita Dhar from Srinagar, Kashmir. I hail from a Kashmiri background where food is a central part of our culture. I am a journalist by training and have been running Sun Media in Singapore for the past 23 years. Outside of work, I am a mum, daughter, wife, friend and a happy person with a good sense of humour. I like to live in the moment and am spiritually inclined. Singapore is my home.

To me, Home is…

where there is warmth, love and care and where loved ones live under one roof. This is where you pass on your traditions and values to your children and continue the legacy of your culture. It is where your children know they can return to even after they have flown the nest.

What’s the story behind the dish you are presenting?

I belong to the Kashmiri Pandit community. Roganjosh is a lamb dish from Kashmir known as the King of Kashmiri cuisine. Served during celebrations, it brings back memories of my mother’s cooking in Kashmir. Due to unrest in Kashmir, we had to leave the valley in 1989.  The warmth and aroma of this dish help us recreate a sense of Srinagar in Singapore.
