While most prayers and practices connect communities with their religious identities, Jeffrey’s Seventh Month prayers and practices are also a way for him to connect with his ancestors. From setting up the altar to the specific ways offerings ought to be presented, Jeffrey will be sharing everything about how he conducts his Seventh Month prayers and practices in this exclusive session within his home!

Hello everyone! I am Jeff, the third-generation owner of Eng Tiang Huat! Every Seventh Month, I will set up an altar in my shop and conduct prayers with my wife. I see these prayers as a duty to my family and a part of my heritage and life.
To me, Home is…
is where my heart is. I was born in this shop(house), grew up in this shop, worked in this shop, got married in this shop, raised my family in this shop … and will probably die in this shop. This shop is definitely my home.
What is special about the prayers and practices you conduct at home?
The prayer rituals I do at home are passed down by my grandfather. He passed it down to my father and I have carried it on. There are many things that I have retained because I believe that these practices have meanings. For instance, there must be five meats, and ten cups for wine and tea. Other offerings include mee gong, a vegetarian bowl, ang ku kueh, shun kui, fa gao, and others.

- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Asthmatic individuals are encouraged to bring their inhaler.
