Introduce yourself

Hello! I am Kurt, the owner of Casa Kumi, a Eurasian home dining experience popularised by Channel 8 since its feature in 2018. I come from a diverse background. My late grandmother is Teochew, while my mother is Chinese Portuguese from the Malacca settlement. My father is a typical Indian Scottish man. My interest in food started from a really young age. While my parents were preparing food in the kitchen, I’d always come to the kitchen and ask what these and those were. I was very inquisitive, and I started learning about the ingredients. My  grandmother was there to teach me and it didn’t matter whether it was fully cooked or not. I learnt to always taste, taste and taste.

Love. It is where I can express my love for food sharing and my Eurasian culture.

What’s the story behind the dish you are presenting?

I want to promote the Eurasian culture and also express the diverse background which I come from. Devil curry is iconic to Eurasian culture. Shepherd’s pie reflects my Scottish background while stir-fried vegetables express my late grandmother’s Chinese roots.
