Peranakan cuisine combines the flavours of Chinese ingredients with Malay cooking techniques to produce the most scrumptious dishes! Jasmine will be making some of her mother’s passed down recipes for participants to experience authentic Peranakan cuisine! I am a lawyer by trade, but I am deeply passionate about history and heritage. My earliest memories of Peranakan food go way back to my family’s shophouse at Marshall Road where I spent most of my childhood. I love to collect old Peranakan recipe books and vintage Peranakan Nyonya wooden moulds. Through them, I share my love for Peranakan culture and food.

The dishes that I will be preparing are iconic Peranakan dishes. Many of these dishes are recipes passed down from my mother, who is 90 years old this year. These include Kerabu, Pong Tauhu soup, Udang masak nanas and Achar. I still remember vividly how my mother would be a tornado every year when we had to perform ancestral worship. She would work very fast and prepare 8, 10 or even 12 dishes as offerings for our ancestors. She was a real inspiration to me.
