Discover how Jessie Toh assembles her “Auntie Army” to put up a breathtaking display of red-and-white lanterns just in time for National Day.
Experience first-hand the artistry and effort that goes into Jessie’s intricate lantern designs. Inspired by lantern craftsmen in Chinatown, Jessie will share about the meticulously selecting and sourcing red packets to the painstaking assembly process her “Auntie Army” has to go through months before festive occasions.
Former Bedok resident Jessie became interested in paper lantern decorations as she has friends who were involved in similar crafts. Feeling inspired, she started making the lanterns herself which won the compliments of many family and friends. Over the last 20 years, Jessie has developed many strong community bonds with her neighbours in and from the surrounding blocks that she can ‘activate’ to help her with the decorations or gather for just a simple meal.
