Tucked away from the urban hustle, Kubur Boyan Cemetery is a portal into the lives of the close-knit Baweanese community, whose deep-rooted traditions and distinctive identities remain integral to Singapore’s multicultural tapestry. Join Sarafian in remembering the storied community at this little-known cemetery.
Bounded by a private housing estate and HDB blocks off Bedok South Road, a small Muslim cemetery still exists, a marker of the kampongs that used to inhabit the area before they were cleared to build Bedok New Town. Also known as Tanah Wakaf Nyaii or Kubur Boyan, the cemetery is a resting place for those of Baweanese descent.
Join us and see how these graves are still maintained by faithful descendents today, and get the chance to visit the graves of Malay royalty!
