About the Programme

What you’ll do:

Recovering from addiction can be a long and lonely journey – whether one is addicted to substances like alcohol or drugs, or behaviours like gambling, pornography, or even gaming. This chronic and relapsing mental health disorder can feel like an insurmountable mountain to tackle – which is why WE CARE works to provide those undergoing their rehab journey with not only interventions in the form of counselling and therapy, but also seeks to provide a safe and supportive haven for all to drop-in and work on their recovery journey.

Walk through the reception of WE CARE and meet Recovery Guides who draw on their personal experiences to connect with and journey alongside individuals in the process of recovery, before taking a look at the therapy rooms where trained counsellors sit down with individuals to identify issues that contribute to their addictions and develop strategies to manage these problems.

Participants can also look forward to a visit to WE CARE’s Drop-In Centre: a safe, non-judgemental space where those who are recovering can visit to distance themselves from triggers at home or other environments, and actively work on their recovery through workshops and training sessions with the aim of re-entering the workforce and building a better relationship with their families at home. You’ll also sit down and speak with someone who is going through their addiction recovery journey, and hear how their lives have changed since setting off on their recovery journey with WE CARE.

At WE CARE Community Services, the Communications Team plays a vital role in shaping the centre’s outreach and advocacy efforts – each bringing a unique blend of professional experience and lived recovery.

About WE CARE

WE CARE Community Services Limited is the first non-denominational outpatient addiction treatment centre in Singapore. We offer counselling and programmes for all forms of addictions including drug, alcohol, gambling, sex, eating disorder, internet and shop-lifting.

We also run a community-based drop-in centre for the recovering individuals to connect with other recovering persons. Within this safe and non-judgemental environment, our clients are able to work on their recovery.

Our Centre is staffed with professional counsellors who provide one-to-one and family counselling. We also facilitate addiction-related programmes to community agencies and various halfway houses. We also conduct awareness talks, community education and prevention outreach to the public and corporate agencies. WE CARE runs family workshops and education on how best to support the affected love ones.

Meet Your Facilitator – Chew Tai Wen

Chew Tai Wen is a Senior Executive at the National University of Singapore and a dedicated volunteer with My Community Festival. In 2024, she facilitated the After Hours @ My Toa Payoh tour, leading evening explorations of the wet market’s routines, food culture, and everyday connections.

In her professional career, Chew has been involved in psychological research and community education. Notably, she co-authored a study published in Current Psychology (2023), examining the relationship between volunteering and psychosocial well‑being—demonstrating her interest in the value and impact of civic engagement.

As a volunteer, Chew contributes to both facilitation and logistics, providing thoughtful coordination to ensure events run smoothly. She brings strong organisational skills and attention to detail, helping participants engage fully with each community experience.

Her education and research background enhances her volunteer role by grounding programmes in real human impact. Beyond facilitating and guiding walks, she helps capture reflections and feedback, further enriching My Community’s understanding of how heritage work affects people.
