The American Embassy, Shangri La, Marina Bay Sands. What do these places have in common? They have all ordered lampshades handmade by Mr Chew and his wife Mrs Lee! Join us this August for a heartwarming sharing by the elderly couple as they demonstrate this fading craft and try your hand at creating your very own custom lampshade too!

Hello everyone! I am Mr Chew and I have been a lampshade maker for 40 years. I have one daughter, three sons and many grandchildren. I started my business in Malacca, Malaysia but moved to Singapore to expand it. I even had a factory at Yishun Industrial Park back in the 1980s.

What does this craft mean to you?
Lampshade making and repair is my life. Even though I have officially closed my business, I still enjoy doing this as a hobby. These days, it is mostly people bringing over their old lampshades for me to fix. At this slower pace, I am able to really take my time to perfect each and every one.
