After a long day of work, Ahmed enjoys nothing more than whipping up a simple but filling curry for himself using ingredients from nearby supermarket “Sadia”. Join him for an evening of sharing over a piping hot plate of fragrant Bangladeshi curry.
Food is a way for people to connect with a distant homeland – familiar flavours bring an immense sense of comfort that makes one feel right at home! Be taken back to Bangladesh through Ahmed and Sadek’s aromatic curry as he recreates a sense of home through this dish and shares his vivid accounts of life back home.
Food is non-halal. The dinner is not suitable for vegetarians. Food may contain dairy, eggs, nuts and other allergens.
I came to Singapore from Bangladesh in 2012 to work in construction. I love to cook. There’s a supermarket called “Sadia” right next to my dormitory at Tuas, and they have everything I need to make a delicious curry. I usually whip one up for myself at least three times a week. I enjoy cooking because it brings people together. It is also a way for me to stay connected to my family who is far away in Bangladesh.
Where my family is. It is where I can do anything. It is the place that cares for me, and provides comfort when I am sad.
My friend, Md Abu Zafar Sadek, will be cooking traditional dishes that reflect the Bangladeshi culture. I see this as an opportunity to share with others my experience living in Singapore over my favourite food.
