Thirsty? Welcome to Siglap where the Chiams have set up an eye-catching vending machine to provide drinks to delivery riders and refuse workers. Learn how to replicate this initiative in your community and embrace the spirit of giving. It’s time to raise a drink and say TYVM!
Eric Chiam and his family have set up a soft-drink vending machine that provides free drinks to food deliverymen and other workers who visit their home. Through this thoughtful gesture, the Chiam family aims to express their gratitude and provide a small token of appreciation to the hardworking individuals who contribute to their daily lives through food and mail deliveries.
The vending machine serves as a convenient and self-service option for these workers to help themselves to a cold drink, ensuring they are refreshed and appreciated during their busy work shifts.
Find out how the Chiams overcome the operational and logistical challenges – the many trials and errors – in setting up the machine and how this vending machine has brought the Siglap community closer in this event.
TYVM Drinks is an initiative launched in January 2023 by Eric Chiam, Lisa Chiam, and their three children. It started as a pilot project that aims to provide free drinks to delivery drivers and couriers. The idea of setting up a vending machine came about during a discussion on how to efficiently offer drinks without constantly having to run out of the house. Initially considering a fridge, they eventually decided on purchasing a second-hand vending machine from Japan for this purpose. Till date, the family has dispensed over 6000 drinks, averaging out to around 30 to 40 drinks a day!
