Join Lim Gek Meng as he takes you on a gastronomic journey through time. With Gek Meng as your guide, delve into the rich history of the original hawkers who migrated from the Kreta Ayer area to Chinatown Complex in 1983. Hear fascinating stories of their resilience and witness the vibrant transformation of the neighbourhood. Join us on this delectable tour and immerse yourself in the heritage of Kreta Ayer Hawkers, where the past and present blend harmoniously in a symphony of flavours.
Meet Your Host
Lim Gek Meng, the owner of Ming Fa Fishball Noodles, carried on the legacy of a business founded in 1946 by his father, Lim Chye Kang. Initially, a pushcart stall along Clarke Quay, Ming Fa was relocated to Chinatown Complex in 1983. Gek Ming’s extensive experience in Chinatown Complex has allowed him to cultivate lasting friendships with fellow hawkers while gaining valuable knowledge and expertise in the hawker trade. Today, he has passed on the business to his son, ensuring the continuation of Ming Fa’s rich history.

What to bring?
- Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably!
- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Participants are encouraged to bring their own earphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack) because we will be using radio guides for the tour!
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.

- Please arrive 15 minutes before the event for registration.
- The event will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at Chinatown Complex. Alternative parking is available at Chinatown Point and Maxwell Food Centre.
- The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.
