Get ready to meet Justin and Konnipa, a dynamic duo staying in Yio Chu Kang. Justin, a proud Singaporean Chinese, found love with Konnipa, who hails from the Esarn region of Thailand. Their journey began with a chance meeting through a mutual friend, leading to a long-distance relationship that blossomed into something more. Konnipa made the life-changing decision to move to Singapore, where they tied the knot in 2014.
Living in Singapore has been a positive experience for Konnipa, as the vibrant Thai community here provides a sense of belonging. She enjoys easy access to the food and ingredients that remind her of home, ensuring that she never has to compromise on her culinary preferences. However, Konnipa also faced challenges adjusting to the structured nature of Singapore’s business environment. While in Thailand, starting a food business could be as simple as deciding to do so, the process in Singapore involves licenses and registrations that require time and effort. Despite these obstacles, Konnipa’s passion for food led her to run a food stall for a few years in a local food court, drawing inspiration from her mother’s successful food business back in Thailand. Now, she runs a successful makeup business, lending her skills to photoshoots, events, and individual clients. Her talent and artistry shine through both in the kitchen and in the realm of beauty.
Together, Justin and Konnipa host delightful dinner parties every few months, embracing their vibrant Thai community in Singapore. With a large circle of friends who prefer to savour their own cultural cuisines, these gatherings are a celebration of friendship, good food, and joyful moments.
Joining them are Riya and Onuma, who met the couple through their volunteer work at the Thai Association in Singapore. This wonderful group of friends often come together to support each other in outreach events and share their love for Thai culture and cuisine. With Konnipa taking the lead as the main cook and Riya and Onuma providing valuable assistance, you can expect an evening of vibrant flavours and delicious Thai dishes. Their strong bond and shared experiences create an inviting atmosphere that will make you feel like part of the family.
