Sherrine Tan and Edwin Lum are a young and ambitious married couple who share a deep passion for aquaculture. Having known each other since primary school, their journey into prawn farming has roots in their family’s fishing and wholesaling background. Sherrine’s grandfather has a long history in the fishing trade on Pangkor Island, while her father has been involved in wholesaling at Senoko Fishery Port. With their family’s legacy in mind, Sherrine and her brother took over their father’s store, and subsequently, Sherrine and Edwin opened a new venture at Jurong Fishery Port, which has successfully operated for nearly three years. They saw the challenges posed by COVID-19 as an opportunity to establish their own shrimp farm in Johor Bahru, recognising the benefits of self-reliance.
Driven by their vision and expertise, Sherrine and Edwin took it upon themselves to design and implement the technology and infrastructure for their shrimp farm. This demonstrates their innovative thinking and dedication to creating a sustainable and efficient aquaculture system. By combining their knowledge and experience, they have established YY Aquaculture as a thriving enterprise, ensuring quality prawns while maintaining control over their supply chain. Sherrine and Edwin’s determination and entrepreneurial spirit have propelled them forward, making them prominent figures in the aquaculture industry.
