Meet Lim Ser Kwee, who has dedicated his life to cultivating pineapples since childhood. As the president of the Federation of Vegetable Farmers Associations, his passion and expertise shine through. Joining him is the vibrant Huan Yi Heng, a young member of the esteemed HKK Fruits family, who carries the pineapple farming legacy into its third generation. After visiting the farm and its logistics base at Simpang Renggam, we will head to Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre, where we will meet with long-time wholesalers to hear about their challenges working in the trade. Lim Ser Kwee, a seasoned pineapple farmer, has been tending to pineapple crops since he was just nine years old. Following in his father’s footsteps, Mr Lim dedicated himself to pineapple farming and eventually took over the family business. Now 62 years old, Mr Lim is considering retirement. In addition to his pineapple farming expertise, he holds the esteemed position of president of the Federation of Vegetable Farmers Associations, showcasing his leadership and commitment to the farming community.
Over the years, Mr Lim has witnessed Huan Yi Heng, also known as Ah Heng, grow up. Their families have had close ties, with Ah Heng’s father residing opposite Mr Lim’s property in the past. This close-knit pineapple farming community has fostered a strong bond among its members. Ah Heng hails from a family that owns one of the largest pineapple plantations in the region, known as HKK Fruits. As a third-generation pineapple farmer, Ah Heng carries on the legacy established by his family. At the age of 24, he brings youthful energy and a fresh perspective to the pineapple farming industry. With their combined expertise and dedication, Lim Ser Kwee and Huan Yi Heng contribute to the thriving pineapple farming community in Simpang Renggam.
