Kidds Tan, at 34 years old, continues the legacy of Shengta Plantation, which was passed down from his father. Alongside his two brothers, they collectively manage the plantation that has been in their family. Kidds Tan, a father of four children, represents the youth and educational aspects of the Federation of Vegetable Farmers Association. As part of the federation, Kidds Tan will be shedding light on the unpredictable nature of vegetable farming and the misconceptions held by some wholesalers. Despite these challenges, Kidds Tan and his dedicated team work tirelessly, with their workers beginning the vegetable harvest as early as 1-2 am daily. Every day at 8am, the freshly harvested vegetables are collected, washed, and loaded onto lorries for delivery.
Shengta Plantation plays an important role in supplying Singapore with a variety of vegetables, including kangkong, spinach, chives, and lettuce. Their commitment to providing fresh produce is unwavering, with their workers labouring tirelessly, even working on public holidays, except for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. Recently, Shengta Plantation has expanded its farming endeavours to include guava, jackfruits, and other crops. With a team of 170 foreign workers and 25 local workers, they ensure the quality and quantity of their produce through meticulous harvesting and grading processes.
