My Punjabi x Gujarati Dinner with River Valley Neighbours Vandana Sharma and Radhika Jathanna
Hailing from India, both Vandana and Radhika are mothers of a pair of inseparable playmates at a neighbourhood playground. Indulge in Vandana’s authentic Punjabi chole and Radhika’s traditional Gujarati dhokla as they serve up delicious homemade Indian cuisine using fresh and exotic ingredients.

What You'll Do
Indulge in Vandana’s family recipe of chole, a delectable chickpea curry served with fragrant jeera rice, crispy poori (fried bread), and a delightful dessert that will leave you craving for more. As you savour the hearty curry, Vandana will share heartwarming tales of her childhood and how food has become a powerful medium for connecting with her family and preserving her cultural heritage. The dishes she will be presenting hold a special place in her heart as they have always been her family’s favourite and are often enjoyed during festivals and special occasions. With her expertise in making traditional Gujarati delicacies like rice cakes, dhokla (a popular fermented snack served with daal), and pulao (a vegetarian version of biryani), Radhika will also be sharing about her home cuisine and her experience living in Singapore.
Meet Your Host
Vandana Sharma, born and raised in India, has been residing in Singapore with her husband and two daughters for the past decade. With a background in education, Vandana now dedicates her time to volunteering with various organisations such as SINDA, IC2, Red Cross, MiNDs, and My Community!
Joining Vandana is Radhika, hailing from Mumbai, India. Both Vandana and Radhika reside in the same condominium, and their daughters have become inseparable playmates. Although their busy lives have limited their regular meetings, Vandana and Radhika first connected through their daughters’ friendship. They would often meet at the park, gradually transitioning their gatherings to include lunch and coffee. The duo even volunteered together at Delta House Community Centre, where Vandana shared her math teaching skills while Radhika contributed as an English tutor.
Important Details
What to bring?
- Participants should be dressed respectfully in smart casual (i.e. collared shirt, long pants and covered shoes). Sleeveless attire, shorts/miniskirts or sandals are strictly not allowed. Participants will be denied entry if they dress inappropriately.
- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.
Other important information
- The dishes may contain nuts and other allergens. Food is not halal certified and non-vegetarian.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the event for registration.
- The events will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at Valley Park Condominium.
- The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.
