What You'll Do
During this programme, participants can challenge the brilliant uncles of Chinatown to a thrilling game of chess. As the crowd grows, you’ll be drawn into their world, witnessing the unique bonds forged over the chessboard. Don’t be surprised if you’re invited to join in, with promises of free coffee and unexpected wagers.
Meet Your Host
In the heart of tranquil Chinatown, a group of retired men gather to play Singaporean checkers or Chinese chess. The players, who are primarily local residents, engage in strategic moves and lively discussions. These uncles, a close-knit community of retired individuals, find joy and companionship in this simple board game, creating lasting connections amidst the bustling streets of Chinatown.

What to bring?
- Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably!
- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.
Other important information
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the event for registration.
- The event will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at Chinatown Complex. Alternative parking is available at Chinatown Point and Maxwell Food Centre.
- The venue is wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.
