What You'll Do
As the sun sets over the vibrant streets of Chinatown, a whole new world awakens within the culinary haven of Chinatown Complex. Join us on an enchanting after-dark tour that unveils the behind-the-scenes magic of how hawkers meticulously prepare the food that will delight our taste buds the next day.
From the sizzle of the woks to the rhythmic chopping of vegetables, you will witness the love and dedication that goes into creating our favourite Cantonese desserts and Hainanese chicken rice. You will also meet and interact with these passionate hawkers themselves, who will eagerly share their experiences, techniques, and stories about their craft.
Meet Your Host
My Community is a non-profit organisation which works to capture and preserve community stories, reconnect people to places and social networks, and deepen heritage appreciation and express across the country. It also advocates for greater community involvement in cultural management and urban governance. Since its inception in 2010, My Community has spurred the growth and development of a common-man approach to heritage where everyday experiences and Singaporeans are chronicled and celebrated.
Today, My Community is supported by an army of over 1,000 volunteers who work with a nimble team of staff to organise guided tours, exhibitions, festivals and other placemaking programmes in Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Kallang-Whampoa.
Important Details
What to bring?
- Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and wear covered shoes with good soles grip.
- Participants should bring along an umbrella, hand sanitisers, insect repellent, and a bottle of water.
- Participants are encouraged to bring their own earphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack) because we will be using radio guides for the tour!
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.
Other important information
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour for registration.
- The tour will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at Chinatown Complex. Alternative parking is available at Chinatown Point and Maxwell Food Centre.
- The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.

- All ticket sales are final. There will be no refund if you wish to cancel your tickets.
- Each ticket admits only one participant.
- By agreeing to participate in the tour, every participant will be responsible for any injury, loss of damage due to careIessness of other actions on his/her part or that of children under his/her charge.
- It is compulsory for a parent/guardian to accompany any child of or under the age of 12.
- Videos and photographs may also be taken during the event. By registering for this event, you give My Community full rights to use the photos for marketing and publicity.
