Take a trip back in time and explore Singapore’s last kampong-style surau (an Islamic place of worship) with Ustaz Imran Khan as he shares the importance of neighbours in Islamic tradition and how the surau continues to be the focal point of community activities.
Kampong Lorong Buangkok surau is a small prayer facility located in Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the last remaining traditional village in Singapore. Inside the surau, participants would find a prayer hall or musallah where worshippers gather to perform their prayers. The prayer area typically features a clean and spacious carpeted floor, allowing for congregational prayers. The qibla, indicating the direction of Mecca, is indicated by a niche or a marked wall.
For many years, the surau serves as a community centre in the village, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among the local community.

About Surau Al-Firdaus Lorong Buangkok
The Surau Al-Firdaus Lorong Buangkok, despite its unassuming exterior, holds great importance as a place of worship for the local community, tracing its roots back to the 1960s. Situated in Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the last remaining kampung in Singapore, the surau serves as a prayer venue and also offers religious classes to cater to the needs of those who visit. It is noteworthy that both residents and non-residents of Kampong Lorong Buangkok utilise the surau, emphasising its inclusive nature.

What to bring?
- Participants should be dressed respectfully in smart casual (i.e. collared shirt, long pants and covered shoes). Sleeveless attire, shorts/miniskirts or sandals are strictly not allowed. Participants will be denied entry if they dress inappropriately.
- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Participants are encouraged to bring their own earphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack) because we will be using radio guides for the tour!
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.
Other important information
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour for registration.
- The tour will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at the Multi Storey carpark at 998 Buangkok Cres Singapore 530998 (Approx. 5 min walk to entrance of the kampong).
- The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.
