Pua Chon Teck, also known as Mr Pua, is a dedicated vegetable farmer at Ngee Teck Huat. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Mr Pua’s passion for farming is unwavering. He takes great pride in his work, emphasising that he has never complained about feeling tired throughout his 28 years of farming. Instead, he finds true enjoyment in his laborious efforts. Mr Pua shares a close friendship with Koh Fah, Singapore’s largest vegetable supplier, and in the past, he used to send his produce to them for packaging, which would then be distributed to NTUC.
Mr Pua’s journey into vegetable farming began at the age of 19 when he and his brother decided to venture into the business themselves. Over the years, Ngee Teck Huat has grown to become a prominent supplier of vegetables to various markets, including Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre, Fairprice, Sheng Siong, Hao Mart, and Umart. They cultivate over 100 varieties of vegetables, with a significant portion of their produce, including popular items like kang kong, bayam, and xiao bai cai, being sold in Singapore. With a daily production of approximately 2,000 kg of xiao bai cai and a total of 15,000-20,000 kg of vegetables, Ngee Teck Huat plays a vital role in meeting Singaporean’s demand for fresh produce.
Mr Pua’s dedication to his work is remarkable. Even during holidays like Labour Day and Hari Raya, he prefers to be productive rather than taking time off. His commitment to physical exercise is also evident, as he actively participates in collecting bottles and reusing or selling used cans. He believes that this hands-on approach is beneficial for his health and well-being.
