Kong Li Yong, one of the managers at Zenxin Organic Park, manages an impressive 100-acre farm at Zenxin Organic Park. The farm boasts a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, including bananas, coconuts, dragon fruit, chye sim, and bitter gourd. Kong Li Yong will be sharing insights into the demand for different varieties of produce, noting that Singapore consumers often ask for western-style vegetables, such as cabbage and broccoli, which they source from Cameron Highlands. Conversely, the Malaysian market tends to favour local favourites like chye sim.
Zenxin Group, established in 1979, has a rich history rooted in organic farming. The owner initially started as a chicken farmer and recognised the potential of organic vegetable farming, utilising chicken poop as fertiliser. This led him to become a strong advocate for education and organic farming practices. With a workforce of 300-400 employees, including shopfront workers, Zenxin assigns each farm a specific focus from start to finish. Workers receive a base salary and incentives based on their output. The company provides essential clothing, equipment, and training to support its workers. Many employees have dedicated 10-20 years to Zenxin before returning to their hometowns.
