As your gracious hosts, Jasmine and Cindy have curated a mouthwatering menu showcasing the best of Peranakan cuisine. Start off with a bowl of Pong Tau Hu soup, a comforting and flavourful dish that highlights the subtle nuances of Peranakan flavours. Next, indulge in the renowned Babi Pongteh. This beloved braised pork dish, accompanied by bamboo shoots and dried mushrooms, is a true Peranakan classic. Allow the tender meat and aromatic spices to captivate your senses as you savour each delectable bite. Then, be treated to Ayam Tempra, a dish that exemplifies the everyday charm of Peranakan cuisine. To conclude your memorable dining experience, satisfy your sweet tooth with a delightful dessert of Pulut Hitam, made from black glutinous rice and garnished with dried longan. Meet Your Host
Jasmine, a contributor of culinary articles, writer and editor of cookbooks and heritage writer of Allspice Institute, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Growing up with memories of her family’s delectable cooking, Jasmine’s goal is not merely to recreate those dishes but to delve deeper into the essence of Peranakan cuisine. She explores various cookbooks and embraces the unique rhythm and style of Peranakan food while infusing her scientific approach to cooking. Her dishes are a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, capturing the essence of Peranakan flavours while adding her own personal touch.
Cindy is Jasmine’s close friend and cooking partner. Their friendship blossomed after meeting at My Community’s Makan My Curry Buah Keluak event, where they instantly connected over their shared passion for food and the community. Though they may not hang out regularly, they often find time to catch up and explore local eateries in their neighbourhood. Embracing a wide variety of cuisines, Cindy’s open-mindedness and adventurous spirit make her the perfect companion in their culinary endeavours.
Important Details
What to bring?
- Participants should be dressed respectfully in smart casual (i.e. collared shirt, long pants and covered shoes). Sleeveless attire, shorts/miniskirts or sandals are strictly not allowed. Participants will be denied entry if they dress inappropriately.
- Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
- Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.
Other important information
- The dishes may contain shellfish and other allergens. Food is not halal certified and non-vegetarian.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the event for registration.
- The events will proceed rain or shine.
- Parking is available at Blk 10 Gloucester Road Singapore 210009.
- The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
- Photography is allowed at event premises.
